Bergamot is a variety of citrus that is grown in Italy. The fragrant oil is taken from the rind and is added to the tea to give it the smell and taste. Earl Grey was the drink of choice for the British Prime Minister in the 1830’s, Charles Grey, the second Earl Grey, hence where the name of the tea.
