Monsooned Malabar coffee is one of the most distinctive coffees in the world, shaped as much by climate as by craft. Grown along the lush southwestern coast of India, the beans are harvested, carefully dried, and then exposed to the seasonal monsoon winds that sweep in from the Arabian Sea.

For several weeks, the green coffee beans are stored in jute sack is open-sided warehouses, where they absorb the warm, moisture-laden air. The beans are carefully moved into new sacks every few days to avoid mould forming.

During this time the beans swell in size, soften in colour from green to pale gold, and undergo a transformation that echoes the accidental ageing once caused by long sea voyages to Europe.

The result is a cup unlike almost any other. Monsooned Malabar is known for its low acidity, heavy body, and exceptionally smooth character. In the cup, it often reveals earthy notes of cedar, tobacco, spice, and roasted nuts, layered with hints of dark chocolate and malt.

Its mellow, almost creamy mouthfeel makes it especially appealing to those who favour rich, rounded coffees with depth and warmth.
