Japan, the land of the rising sun, is infamous for their stunning Green teas. However recently black tea has become increasingly popular there and this has lead to Japanese tea producers using their finely honed tea making skills to produce some interesting Black teas, like this one.
Japan Benifuki Organic is called that because it is grown from the Benefuki cultivar of tea plant, a hybrid of Assamica and Sinensis shubs, this cultivar was developed in 1965.
The leaves have an incredible dark colour and are well worked and oxidised. The result is an exceptionally full bodied black tea which brews to a deep red coloured liquor. It has a full body with notes of plums and a long lasting aftertaste.
